In nearly five decades of bringing extraordinary audio to the world, I have learned to trust the makers who build with conviction rather than committee. Trafomatic from Serbia, is exactly that: a small artisan house in the Balkans, led by a designer with the temperament of a rock star and the discipline of a master craftsman.
At its heart are two GM70 triodes in parallel single-ended configuration. Directly heated purity, yes, but with a scale and authority that no one expects from a single-ended design. It is a marriage of triode magic and transformer mastery, and it is loud in all the right ways.
Do not expect the sweet, sleepy warmth that valves are sometimes accused of. The Elysian has tremendous weight and colour, yet voices and instruments arrive with raw texture and real presence, and the microdynamics give every performance a pulse. The soundstage is vast and holographic, and you can hear exactly how the musicians are listening to one another. The bass is commanding, the finesse is startling, and the emotion is entirely unforced.
This is European artisan audio at its most fearless. It is a proud member of the Ten Collection, and I will say it plainly: the Elysian does not merely reproduce music. It gives it weight, immediacy and physical presence, and it will leave you breathless.
